Ethan didn't move.
He just held Lily against his chest, one hand covering her ear so she couldn't hear what came next.
"How long?" he said.
Vivian's smile was gone.
"Ethan, you don't understand—"
"How long has this been happening?"
She reached for his arm.
He stepped back.
Lily was still shaking.
Her small fingers gripped his shirt like she was afraid he would disappear again.
Ethan looked at the camera screen one more time.
Then he looked at Vivian.
"You told me she was clumsy.
You told me she kept falling."
Vivian's voice dropped.
"She's a difficult child.
You're never home.
You don't know what it's like—"
"Don't."
He carried Lily to the hallway and called the housekeeper.
"Take her upstairs.
Stay with her.
Don't leave her alone."
When he came back, Vivian was standing by the fireplace.
Calm.
Almost composed.
That was when Ethan noticed the folder on the side table.
He hadn't seen it before.
His name was on the cover.
And below it, in smaller print — *Amendment.
Signed.
Witnessed.*
He picked it up.
His hands went still.
"What is this, Vivian?"
She didn't answer.
But something behind her eyes shifted.
And Ethan realized this wasn't just about Lily.
---
What's inside that folder — and how far has Vivian gone?
What Ethan finds next will change everything.
