Part 2
The document was dated eighteen years ago.
My mother's signature was at the bottom.
So was my father's.
I had found it tucked inside an old Bible after she passed, wrapped in a piece of cloth like something precious.
Like something she had wanted me to find one day.
I read every word twice.
Then I sat very still at my kitchen island for a long time.
Because that house in Phoenix — the one Gwendolyn had just thrown me out of — was never Samuel's to give away.
It was mine.
My mother had made sure of that before she ever got sick.
A private property transfer, signed and notarized.
The house had passed to me the day she died.
My father had been listed as a caretaker only — not an owner.
Not Gwendolyn's husband.
Not Chloe's stepfather.
A caretaker.
Which meant Gwendolyn had just ordered me to leave my own home.
My phone buzzed on the counter.
A text from Samuel.
*"Paige.
Call me.
Gwendolyn is saying something about the house deed.
I don't know what she found but she's very upset."*
I set the phone face down.
Then I looked at the document one more time.
They had found out.
And they were already panicking.
But what they didn't know yet — what would change absolutely everything — was the second document still folded beneath the first.
The one with the lawyer's name on it.
The one that had been waiting for exactly this moment.
---
What did Paige's mother leave behind — and what happens when Samuel finally reads that second document?
The full truth is more powerful than anyone expected.
