"I Came Home With Toys For My Four-Year-Old Daughter And Found Her Crying Over Dirty Dishes—But What She Showed Me Inside The Doghouse Was Even Worse.

“Daddy!”

Emma’s small hands were buried in soapy water.

The chair beneath her shook as she tried to reach another plate.

I dropped the toy bags and hurried across the kitchen.

“What are you doing up there?”

Emma began to cry.

“She said I have to finish before dinner.”

My stomach tightened.

“Who said that?”

Before she could answer, my stepsister Rachel entered the kitchen.

She seemed annoyed to see me.

“You’re home early.”

I lifted Emma from the chair.

Her fingers were red and wrinkled from the water.

“Why is my four-year-old washing your dishes?”

Rachel rolled her eyes.

“She lives here.

She can help.”

Emma pressed her face against my chest.

Then she whispered, “Daddy, I cleaned the bathroom too.”

I glared at Rachel.

“What?”

Rachel shrugged.

“She needs discipline.”

Emma began trembling.

“If I don’t do everything, Aunt Rachel says I have to sleep outside.”

My bl0od ran cold.

“Outside where?”

Emma gestured toward the backyard.

“The dog house.”

Rachel immediately snapped, “She’s exaggerating.”

I took Emma toward the back door.

Rachel stepped in front of me.

“Michael, don’t start this.”

I opened the door anyway.

There was a small pink blanket inside the old wooden dog house.

Beside it lay Emma’s stuffed rabbit.

My daughter started sobbing.

“She put me there last night because I dropped a cup.”

Rachel’s face went pale.

Then I spotted something else under the blanket.

A small black notebook.

Rachel suddenly lunged forward.

“Give me that!”

I grabbed it first.

The first page showed a list of dates beside Emma’s name.

And next to every date was a dollar amount.

Why was Rachel so desperate to grab the notebook, and what will Michael do next?
