July arrived with a heavy, golden heat that bathed the estate in shimmering waves of light. The lawns were lush and green, hosting the hum of cicadas and fluttering monarch butterflies. With Vance firmly behind them, the household embraced peak summer with spontaneous creativity.

Emma transformed the wraparound porch into an open-air sanctuary with hanging ferns, wicker rocking chairs, and fairy lights that cast a magical evening glow. It was here they spent warm nights sipping lemonade and debating medical breakthroughs and modern art.

One balmy Friday night, the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar drifted through the open French doors of the parlor. John paused his historical biography in the study and peered into the room. Ava sat cross-legged on the velvet sofa, delicately picking at the strings of an old guitar John had restored for her.

"I didn't know you played," John whispered from the doorway with a warm smile.

Ava looked up, flushing slightly with pride. "I used to, before everything fell apart. My mom left this guitar to me. The muscle memory just came back today."

"Play something for us," Emma urged, walking in with sliced peaches, followed by Olivia.

Ava closed her eyes, letting her fingers drift across the frets. She began a gentle, flowing melody that captured the essence of a summer breeze. As she sang in a pure, resonant voice, John felt a lump form in his throat—a song of lost winters and finding a safe harbor.

When the final chord faded, Olivia wiped a tear and smiled broadly. "That was breathtaking, Ava."

"She would be so proud," John whispered, placing a hand on Ava's shoulder. "And I think she's the one who led you to this porch, and to you."
