The following Tuesday, the peaceful sanctuary of the Vance estate was shattered.

Cassidy was sitting on the sunlit veranda, reviewing supply chain contracts while the girls played with watercolors under Mrs. Higgins' supervision on the lawn. Declan was sitting on the wooden deck, patiently letting Nora paint bright purple splotches onto his fingernails.

The sudden screech of tires on the front motor court broke the afternoon calm.

Moments later, the heavy side gate leading to the gardens was forcefully pushed open. Victoria Hawthorne marched into the courtyard, flanked by two corporate attorneys in charcoal suits and an imposing private bodyguard.

Cassidy’s head snapped up. In an instant, the gentle, relaxed mother vanished. The cold, lethal titan of Vance Logistics took her place.

"Mrs. Higgins," Cassidy commanded, her voice dropping into an icy, unyielding baritone. "Take the girls inside through the kitchen. Lock the heavy doors. Now."

The nanny recognized the danger instantly, scooping Nora into one arm and shepherding Clara and Maeve inside before the children could process what was happening.

Declan stood up from the deck, his face draining of color. "Mother?"

Victoria barely looked at her son. Her gaze was locked entirely on Cassidy, dripping with aristocratic disdain.

"Cassidy," Victoria sneered, stepping onto the manicured grass as if she owned the soil. "You always were a remarkably deceitful creature. Hiding my son's legitimate children like common street urchins? Did you really think you could conceal the heirs to the Hawthorne estate from me?"

"You are trespassing on private property, Victoria," Cassidy said, standing tall behind the stone table, her posture radiating pure authority. "Step off my grounds before I have my security team physically throw you onto the street."

Victoria laughed—a shrill, mocking sound. "Security? Don't flatter yourself. I have Arthur Pendelton right behind me with an emergency court filing. You committed fraud five years ago by concealing a high-risk multi-fetal pregnancy from your husband! A New York judge will have those girls placed in my protective custody before the week is out!"

"Shut your mouth!"

The roar came not from Cassidy, but from Declan.

Declan stepped between his mother and Cassidy, his fists clenched so hard his knuckles turned bone-white. The purple paint on his fingers trembled with the force of his absolute fury.

Victoria recoiled slightly, startled by the murderous look in her son’s eyes. "Declan, darling, calm down. I am handling this for you. We are taking the girls home to New York."

"You are not touching those girls," Declan spat, his voice vibrating with a venom he had never once directed at his mother. "You will never speak their names. You will never see their faces. And if you ever bring your lawyers within ten miles of this family again, I will personally strip every Hawthorne asset from your control and leave you with nothing."

Victoria stared at him, genuinely horrified. "Declan! Have you lost your mind? She manipulated you! She hid your daughters!"

"You lied to me!" Declan roared, stepping directly into his mother’s face, causing her expensive attorneys to flinch backward. "You forged medical records! You told me she was barren! You paid off doctors to break my marriage apart! You destroyed my life, Mother, and I will be damned to hell before I let you destroy my children’s lives too!"
