Julian’s eyes darted frantically around the perimeter, realizing he had walked directly into a total tactical encirclement. The four Valenti guards slowly raised their hands, dropping their pistols onto the wet asphalt.

"You think you've won, Stefano?" Julian spat, his face contorting with rage as he slowly lowered his hands. "You think you can protect that girl forever? She’s a ghost of a dead family! She doesn't belong in your world!"

"She belongs with me," Stefano said coldly. "And her world is no longer your concern."

At a gesture from Marco, the Visconti guards stepped forward, disarming the Valenti men and forcing them to their knees on the wet pavement. Marco applied heavy zipties to Julian’s wrists, shoving the disgraced Don toward the rear of an unmarked van.

The danger was over. The Valenti threat had been dismantled without a single shot being fired.

Stefano holstered his weapon, turned away from the docks, and walked back toward the armored sedan where I was waiting. I opened the door and stepped out into the rain, my heart soaring with overwhelming relief as I ran toward him.

He met me halfway, catching me in his arms and lifting me slightly off my feet. The cold rain poured over us, but his embrace was scorching hot. He pulled back just enough to frame my face in his hands, his dark eyes searching mine with a fierce, burning devotion.

"It’s over, Clara," he whispered against my lips. "You’re safe. Truly safe."

"Because of you," I said, tears mixing with the rainwater on my cheeks.

"No," Stefano said gently, kissing my forehead before bringing his lips down to meet mine in a deep, passionate kiss that made the rest of the world vanish. "Because you were brave enough to text a dead line."

We stood together on the wet piers as his men cleared the site, the shadow of my mother’s secret finally lifted, replaced by the solid, unyielding reality of the man holding me in his arms.
