Nobody moved.

The man standing at the ballroom entrance looked completely out of place.

Not because he was nervous.

Because he wasn’t.

While everyone else looked terrified, Marcus Carter looked comfortable.

Like he had been invited.

Like he belonged there.

His dark suit was perfectly pressed. His expression was calm. His eyes moved across the room, studying every reaction.

Especially Nia’s.

“Hello, sister.””

Nia stepped back.

Ava immediately moved closer to Darius.

Darius noticed.

He placed a protective hand on her shoulder.

“Stay behind me.””

Marcus smiled.

“Still playing the hero?””

Darius stared.

“Who are you?””

Marcus looked amused.

“You already know.””

“You’re Marcus Carter.””

“Good.””

He looked around the ballroom.

“I was worried nobody would remember me.””

Nia’s voice trembled.

“What are you doing here?””

Marcus looked at the wedding decorations.

“The same thing everyone else is doing.””

He smiled.

“Watching the truth come out.””

Simone stared at him.

“You planned this.””

Marcus looked at her.

“No.””

She laughed quietly.

“Don’t lie.””

“I didn’t plan the little girl finding the drive.””

His eyes moved toward Ava.

“But I knew eventually someone would.””

Ava tightened her grip on Darius’s hand.

Darius looked at Marcus.

“You used my daughter.””

Marcus’s expression changed slightly.

“Careful.””

“Careful?””

“Yes.””

His voice became colder.

“You don’t know the whole story.””

Darius stepped forward.

“I know enough.””

“No, you know what they showed you.””

Marcus pointed toward the USB.

“You haven’t even heard everything.””

The words created another silence.

Darius looked at the drive.

“What else is on it?””

Marcus smiled.

“Exactly.””

Simone looked angry.

“You’re enjoying this.””

“No.””

Marcus looked at her.

“I’m enjoying watching people finally stop pretending.””

Nia stepped forward.

“You ruined everything.””

Marcus laughed.

“No.””

He looked at her.

“You ruined everything when you decided to hide the truth.””

Nia’s face hardened.

“You don’t get to talk about truth.””

“Why?””

“Because you changed the results.””

The room froze.

Darius looked at Marcus.

“What results?””

Marcus didn’t answer.

Nia pointed at him.

“You changed the DNA results.””

Marcus stayed silent.

And that silence was confirmation.

Darius’s expression turned cold.

“You did it?””

Marcus looked at him.

“Yes.””

The answer shocked everyone.

Even Simone.

“You admit it?””

Marcus nodded.

“I changed them.””

Darius stepped closer.

“Why?””

Marcus looked at Ava.

“Because I needed Nia to lose everything.””

Nia’s face changed.

Darius noticed.

“What does that mean?””

Marcus smiled.

“She knows.””

Nia shook her head.

“Don’t involve her.””

“Why not?””

Marcus looked at Ava.

“She deserves to know.””

Darius’s voice became dangerous.

“Don’t talk about my daughter.””

Marcus ignored him.

“You were told I was a monster.””

Nia said nothing.

“You were told I wanted the money.””

Still nothing.

“But nobody told you why.””

Darius looked at Nia.

“Why?””

Nia’s eyes filled with tears.

Marcus answered.

“Because Ava wasn’t supposed to exist.””

The entire ballroom gasped.

Ava looked confused.

Darius immediately turned toward him.

“What did you say?””

Marcus continued.

“The pregnancy was hidden.””

Nia whispered.

“Stop.””

“The truth was hidden.””

“Stop!””

Marcus looked at her.

“You wanted everyone to believe you were protecting your daughter.””

He pointed at the USB.

“But these files prove something else.””

Darius looked at Nia.

“Is there something you haven’t told me?””

Nia couldn’t answer.

Ava looked at her mother.

“Mom?””

Nia’s tears fell.

“I was scared.””

Marcus smiled.

“There it is.””

Darius looked furious.

“Scared of what?””

Nia looked at Ava.

Then at Darius.

“I was scared I would lose her.””

“Lose her to who?””

Nobody answered.

Marcus stepped closer.

“To the truth.””

The room felt smaller.

Darius looked at him.

“You changed the DNA test because you wanted me to believe Ava wasn’t mine.””

Marcus nodded.

“Yes.””

“Why?””

“Because if you believed she wasn’t your daughter…”

Marcus paused.

“You would leave.””

Darius stared.

“And that was the plan?””

Marcus smiled.

“That was the beginning.””

Ava looked at the USB.

“Then why did Simone help you?””

Everyone turned.

Marcus looked at Simone.

A small smile appeared.

“Because Simone didn’t know the entire plan.””

Simone’s face changed.

“What?””

Marcus stepped closer.

“You thought you were helping me remove Nia.””

He looked at Darius.

“But you never asked what would happen after.””

Simone looked horrified.

“What would happen?””

Marcus didn’t answer.

Instead, he looked at the USB drive.

“Play the second recording.””

Simone shook her head.

“No.””

Marcus smiled.

“Now you understand.””

Darius looked at him.

“What’s on it?””

Marcus turned toward the screen.

“The truth about who Ava’s father really is.””

The ballroom went completely silent.

Darius looked at Ava.

Then at Nia.

Then at the USB.

And for the first time, he wondered if the biggest secret wasn’t whether Ava was his daughter.

But whether someone had been hiding the truth about him.
