The sprawling mansion felt like a tomb that evening, suffocating beneath the weight of absolute, paranoid lockdown.

Vincent had restricted Norah to the master suite on the second floor, insisting she was the only person he completely trusted.

She sat on the edge of a velvet armchair, staring out the reinforced glass windows at the dark, rain-soaked grounds.

Deep below the house, in the soundproof basement where the syndicate handled its darkest business, Vincent was hunting for the truth.

The security logs had revealed that a trusted lieutenant named Carlo had signed for the produce delivery at the side gate.

Carlo had been a part of the Rossy family for ten years, making his betrayal an incredibly bitter pill to swallow.

Norah tried to read a book, but her mind kept imagining the terrible, violent things happening in the dark beneath her feet.

She knew Vincent was a criminal, a man who ruled through fear and violence, but she had only ever seen his vulnerable side.

Tonight, she was forced to confront the horrifying reality of the monster she had been feeding and healing.

Around midnight, the heavy oak door of the master suite finally clicked open.

Vincent walked into the room, moving slowly and methodically, like a predator returning to its den after a brutal hunt.

He had removed his suit jacket, and his white dress shirt was wrinkled and stained with small, dark spots of blood.

He didn't look at her immediately, walking straight to the crystal decanter on a side table and pouring a large glass of scotch.

Norah stood up, her heart pounding frantically as she watched him down the burning liquid in one single swallow.

"Is it over?" Norah asked quietly, her voice trembling slightly in the absolute silence of the room.

Vincent finally turned to look at her, his eyes dark, hollow, and completely exhausted by the violence he had just committed.

"Carlo confessed," Vincent stated flatly, setting the heavy crystal glass down with a dull thud.

"He was working for the Moretti family in Chicago, they promised him my territory if he finished the job the poison started."

He looked down at his hands, noticing the faint red stains on his knuckles that soap and water had not fully removed.

"Are you afraid of me now, Norah?" Vincent asked, a rare hint of actual vulnerability cracking his terrifying facade.

Norah looked at the blood on his shirt, the physical evidence of the brutal, unforgiving world he commanded.

She took a slow, deliberate step forward, crossing the plush carpet until she was standing just inches away from him.

"I am terrified of the world you live in," Norah answered honestly, looking up into his dark, tired eyes.

"But I am not afraid of you, Vincent, because I know you did what you had to do to protect this house."

Vincent let out a long, shuddering breath, the tension leaving his broad shoulders as if a massive physical weight had been lifted.

He reached out, his bloody, bruised hands gently cupping her face, terrified that his touch might taint her innocence.

"You are the only pure thing in this entire cursed life," Vincent whispered, his thumbs softly tracing her cheekbones.

He leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers, closing his eyes and simply breathing in the scent of her skin.

Norah closed her eyes too, leaning into his strength, realizing that she had fallen hopelessly in love with a mafia boss.

"I will make you a cup of tea," Norah said softly, breaking the silence but not pulling away from his touch.

"Something simple to help you sleep."

Vincent smiled, a genuine, heartbreakingly soft expression that completely transformed his dangerous face.

"Yes," Vincent agreed quietly.
