A photograph.

Cameron opened the envelope in his office.

His expression changed.

It showed Hope leaving school.

Taken from across the street.

On the back, six words were written.

You can't protect what you can't see.

Cameron stood perfectly still.

Then he called security.

“Lock down the school.”

“Sir?”

“Now.”

He picked up the phone again.

“Find whoever took this photograph.”

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

Because beneath the calm, something ancient had awakened.

The same fear.

The same helplessness.

The same terrible memory of a phone call he had ignored years ago.

Only this time, someone had chosen the wrong child.

Hope was not his biological daughter.

But that no longer mattered.

She was his.

And Cameron West would burn down every wall in his way before allowing anyone to take her.

The threats escalated.

A black car appeared near the school.

Then another.

A man was seen watching the studio.

Elena received an anonymous message.

Leave Cameron, or Hope pays the price.

She deleted it.

Then showed Cameron.

He read it once.

“Pack a bag.”

“Where are we going?”

“My house.”

“We already live there.”

“My secure residence.”

Elena stared at him.

“Cameron.”

“I mean it.”

“You can't hide us forever.”

“No.”

His eyes were hard.

“But I can make sure they never get close enough to hurt you.”

She touched his arm.

“You're afraid.”

He looked at her.

“Yes.”

It was the first time he had admitted it.

“I am terrified.”

Elena stepped into his arms.

He held her tightly.

“You don't have to carry this alone.”

“I know.”

“Then don't.”

He closed his eyes.

For a moment, he let himself be held.

Outside, thunder rolled across the city.

Inside, Hope was asleep upstairs.

And somewhere beyond the gates, someone was watching.

The charity gala was supposed to be their first public appearance as a family.

Cameron had wanted Elena to have one night where she could feel normal.

Instead, the evening became a battlefield.

The ballroom glittered with chandeliers.

Politicians, investors, celebrities, and executives filled the room.

Elena wore a simple black gown.

Cameron couldn't take his eyes off her.

“You're beautiful,” he said.

She smiled.

“You look nervous.”

“I am.”

“Why?”

“I don't like crowds.”

She raised an eyebrow.

“You own half the room.”

“That doesn't mean I trust them.”

Hope stood between them wearing a small silver dress.

“Can we have cake?”

Cameron looked at Elena.

“That's the most important question tonight.”

Elena laughed.

Then the lights went out.

The ballroom fell into darkness.

A scream came from the far side of the room.

Security moved instantly.

Cameron grabbed Elena's hand.

“Hope?”

“Here!”

Cameron turned.

She was gone.

His heart stopped.

“Elena.”

They searched.

“Hope!”

Then a small hand grabbed Cameron's jacket.

“I'm here.”

He turned.

Hope was standing beside a security officer.

Cameron pulled her into his arms.

He didn't care who was watching.

He held her as tightly as he could.

The emergency lights came on.

A fire alarm sounded.

Guests rushed toward the exits.

Cameron looked around.

Someone had created the blackout deliberately.

Then he noticed the service corridor.

The security door was open.

His instincts screamed.

“Move.”

He took Elena and Hope through the corridor.

They reached the private security room.

The door locked behind them.

Cameron checked the monitors.

One camera had been disabled.

Then another.

Then another.

He looked at his head of security.

“Who has access?”

The man hesitated.

“Four people.”

“Names.”

He gave them.

Cameron's eyes narrowed.

One name stood out.

Richard Hale.

His chief financial officer.

The man who had worked beside him for twelve years.

The man Cameron had trusted with everything.

Cameron stared at the monitor.

“Find Richard.”

They found him twenty minutes later.

Not at the gala.

At a private gambling club.

Richard had debts.

Massive ones.

He had been selling information.

Access codes.

Security schedules.

Travel plans.

Everything.

Cameron stood across from him.

“Why?”

Richard's face collapsed.

“I had no choice.”

“You always have a choice.”

“They were going to kill me.”

“Who?”

Richard looked at him.

“Sato.”

Cameron's jaw tightened.

“And Victoria?”

Richard said nothing.

That was answer enough.

Cameron turned away.

“Call the federal authorities.”

Richard began crying.

“Cameron, please.”

Cameron stopped.

“You betrayed my family.”

Richard looked down.

“I know.”

“No.”

Cameron looked back.

“You don't.”

The investigation that followed uncovered more than Cameron expected.

Sato had funded surveillance operations.

Victoria had been communicating with him for months.

Marcus had also been involved.

He had provided information about Elena.

About Hope.

About the custody dispute.

About the places they visited.

The family Cameron had fought so hard to protect had been surrounded by enemies for months.

The authorities moved quickly.

But Victoria disappeared.

Marcus disappeared with her.

Sato returned to Tokyo.

Cameron thought it was over.

He was wrong.

The wedding took place under extraordinary security.

There were no reporters.

No strangers.

Only the people Cameron and Elena trusted.

Hope stood beside them.

When the vows were exchanged, Cameron looked at Elena and felt something he had never expected.

Peace.

Not victory.

Not power.

Peace.

After the ceremony, Hope ran toward them.

“We're really a family now?”

Elena knelt.

“We always were.”

Hope looked at Cameron.

“Even before?”

Cameron smiled.

“Especially before.”

They left for a short honeymoon.

For the first time in years, Cameron allowed himself to disappear from the business world.

He turned off his phone.

He slept late.

He walked beside Elena.

He watched sunsets.

He listened to her talk about opening a larger design studio.

He laughed.

He forgot about enemies.

Then they returned home.

And life seemed almost normal.

Until Elena became sick again.

Cameron panicked.

The doctor smiled.

“She isn't sick.”

Cameron frowned.

“Then what is it?”

Elena looked at him.

She was crying.

“I'm pregnant.”

For several seconds, Cameron said nothing.

He simply stared.

Then he laughed.

A real laugh.

He pulled her into his arms.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

He held her tighter.

Hope came running into the room.

“What happened?”

Elena smiled through her tears.

“You're going to be a big sister.”

Hope screamed.

She jumped up and down.

Cameron looked at the two women in front of him.

His family.

His future.

Everything he had once believed he didn't deserve.

He had spent his life building an empire because he was terrified of losing people.

Now he understood.

An empire could be rebuilt.

Money could be earned again.

Companies could rise and fall.

But love was different.

Love made you vulnerable.

And somehow, that vulnerability made life worth living.

Victoria watched the news from a hotel room.

The photograph of Cameron and Elena appeared on the screen.

Victoria's hands tightened.

“He has everything.”

Marcus sat across from her.

“You promised we'd get our money.”

“We will.”

“You'd better.”

Victoria turned.

“Do you want money?”

“Yes.”

“Then help me take away the one thing he can't replace.”

Marcus stared.

“Hope?”

Victoria smiled.

“Yes.”

The plan began at the museum.

Hope was visiting with her school.

Security was tight.

But Victoria had studied their routines.

She knew which entrance the children used.

She knew when Cameron's security team changed shifts.

She knew which museum employee had financial problems.

The abduction attempt lasted less than two minutes.
