Inside the grand foyer, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Julian had spent the last two hours screaming, threatening, pleading, and crying in alternating waves of pathetic desperation. But my new private security detail—headed by David—had maintained an unyielding perimeter. By 10:45 PM, Julian’s designer suits, custom Italian loafers, and expensive watch collection were stuffed haphazardly into three large black plastic trash bags sitting by the front door.

I stood on the second-floor landing, looking down through the wrought-iron banister as Marcus tried to reason with his sobbing, defeated older brother.

"Julian, you absolute idiot," Marcus muttered, rubbing his temples in utter disbelief. "How could you be so financially reckless? You didn't even check the deed?"

"She lied to me! She said we were co-owners!" Julian sobbed, slumped against the entryway table, looking like a deflated balloon. "She played the long game! She pretended to be weak, she let me walk all over her, and then she stabbed me in the back in front of everyone!"

I slowly descended the stairs, the heels of my black boots clicking sharply against the marble steps. Both men snapped their heads up. Julian scrambled to his feet, his eyes bloodshot and filled with venomous hatred.

"Are you happy now, Clara?!" Julian screamed, pointing a shaky finger at me. "You ruined my life! You humiliated me in front of the entire city! You think you're going to get away with this? I'll sue you! I'll take half of everything—"

"Sue me with what money, Julian?" I interrupted, cutting through his tirade with ice in my veins. I stopped three steps above him, looking down with absolute pity. "You don't have a retainer for a divorce lawyer. You don't even have a credit card that isn't currently declined. Every single corporate account you tried to tap into over the past year has been flagged for corporate review by my forensic accountants."

Julian’s face went slack. "What... what are you talking about?"

"Did you really think I was entirely blind to your late-night 'business meetings' in the city?" I asked quietly, pulling a printed financial summary from my blazer pocket and letting it flutter down to land at his feet. "You didn't just lose your job, Julian. You were fired for embezzlement from your previous firm. They gave you a quiet exit to avoid a public scandal, but you used our home equity line of credit to fund your high-end mistress in downtown Philadelphia."

Marcus stared at his brother in utter revulsion. "You embezzled? Julian, what the hell is wrong with you?"

Julian’s breath hitched. He dropped to his knees, staring at the financial report on the floor as the final pillars of his fabricated reality collapsed entirely. "How... how did you know about that?"

"Because I'm the one who cleaned up the mess behind the scenes to keep you out of a prison cell," I said, my voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "I paid back fifty thousand dollars of embezzled funds to your former employers last year using my own savings, just so our children wouldn't grow up knowing their father was a felon. And how did you repay me? By mocking my stretch marks and telling the world how pathetic I looked compared to Selina."

Julian opened his mouth, but no words came out. The arrogance that had defined him for forty years had been completely incinerated.

"Your trash bags are by the door," I said, turning my back on him. "David will escort you off the property now. Do not ever contact me again. All future communications will go strictly through my divorce attorneys."

Without waiting for his response, I turned and walked back up the stairs toward the quiet nursery, leaving my ruined ex-husband weeping on the marble floor.
