Daniel walked with an unhurried, commanding stride, holding the leather briefcase containing the Project Horizon files against his side. I walked right beside him, my tailored navy blazer and calm demeanor projecting an aura of absolute control that commanded immediate respect from the passing clerks.

As we stepped into the third-floor hearing room, the murmurs around the mahogany horseshoe desk instantly died down.

Genevieve was already seated in the front row, wearing an emerald-green suit that drew every eye in the room. A smug, untouchable smile played across her lips as she watched us approach the commission chairman's podium.

"Mr. Danielson," Chairman Thomas—a veteran bureaucrat known for his ties to the old municipal guard—greeted coldly, adjusting his reading glasses. "We didn't expect you to appear in person for an initial preliminary review."

"When an unverified audit threatens the livelihood of thousands of employees based on fabricated anonymous tips, Chairman, I prefer to deliver the facts personally," Daniel replied, his voice echoing cleanly through the vaulted chamber.

Genevieve stood up smoothly, smoothing her skirt. "Chairman Thomas, the commission's mandate is clear. Meridian Holdings has presented verifiable evidence suggesting that Hayes-Danielson Corp's recent philanthropic endowments were funded by liquidated assets originating from unrecovered estate funds."

I stepped forward, my voice cutting through the tense atmosphere before Daniel could answer.

"Those assets were legally audited, cleared, and reallocated by federal court decree last November, Ms. Vance," I said, looking her dead in the eye. "Unless your definition of 'verifiable evidence' includes forged documents fabricated by offshore shell companies trying to manipulate state oversight."

Genevieve’s smile vanished. "That is an unsubstantiated accusation—"

"It's not an accusation," Daniel interrupted, opening the leather briefcase and placing the thick manila folder squarely on the chairman's desk. "It's a complete forensic accounting of every single dollar, signed off by federal Judge Sterling and corroborated by the encrypted ledgers contained within Project Horizon. If this commission proceeds with an audit based on Genevieve's fraudulent claims, every member of this panel will be co-signing a federal obstruction of justice investigation."

The room went dead silent. Chairman Thomas slowly reached out, opened the folder, and began scanning the notarized affidavits and federal seals stamped across the primary pages. Color rapidly drained from the bureaucrat's face.
