I stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of the East Wing library, watching big, fluffy snowflakes drift down past the courtyard gates. The foundation’s winter outreach program was in full swing, distributing warm coats, books, and holiday meals to families in need across the city.
Daniel walked up behind me, wrapping a soft cashmere throw around my shoulders before resting his hands gently on my waist.
"You're miles away," he murmured against my hair.
"Just thinking about how much has changed in a single year," I replied, leaning back against his chest. "Last winter, we were fighting just to keep our heads above water against Patricia's final legal traps. Now... look at us."
Daniel smiled, turning me around in his arms so I could look into his stormy gray eyes. "We aren't just surviving anymore, Elena. We're building something permanent. And no amount of snow is going to freeze our momentum."
