The moment his boots hit the wet asphalt, Clara broke free from the firefighters, throwing herself forward, collapsing onto her knees in the rain, grabbing Emma into her arms with wild, hysterical sobs of pure relief.
"Emma! Oh my God, Emma!" Clara wept, kissing her daughter’s soot-stained face a hundred times. "My baby... my baby..."
Emma pulled back slightly, her small hand reaching out from the blanket, holding up the singed pink notebook toward Clara. "I saved the interview, Mommy."
Clara burst into fresh, heartbreaking tears, pulling Emma tight against her shoulder.
Adrien stood over them in the rain, his black suit scorched, soot smudged across his sharp jaw, his breathing coming in heavy, shallow rasps.
Lily and Sophie ran over, throwing their small arms around Adrien’s legs, burying their faces into his wet trousers.
"Thank you, Mr. Adrien!" Lily sobbed. "You saved Emma!"
Adrien dropped to one knee on the wet pavement, wrapping his broad arms around all three girls, holding them tight against his chest under the falling rain.
Clara raised her tear-streaked face, looking at Adrien through the rain and smoke—taking in his burned suit, his soot-stained face, and the absolute, fierce tenderness in his gray eyes as he held her daughters.
Every fear she had carried about his world, every wall she had built around her heart for five years, shattered into dust in a single fraction of a second.
"Adrien..." Clara whispered, using his first name for the very first time. "You... you saved my daughter's life."
"I promised them I would not lie to you, Clara," Adrien said softly, his deep baritone carrying smooth and warm over the sound of the rain. "And I promise you this tonight—the men who did this will never see the sun again."
Two hours later, while emergency teams treated Clara and the girls for minor smoke inhalation inside Adrien's private medical transport, Marco stepped up to Adrien’s sedan in the alley.
"Boss," Marco whispered, holding an encrypted satellite phone. "We found Frankie and his partner hiding in a secondary warehouse near the docks."
Adrien looked back at the transport van—seeing Clara through the glass, wrapping her daughters in warm blankets, looking out at him with a soft, radiant trust.
"Hand them over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Marco," Adrien commanded cleanly. "Along with the complete evidence ledgers on the South Side extortion ring. Clean the district permanently."
Marco blinked in absolute, shock-filled awe. "The feds, Boss? We're handing our own district territory to the feds?"
"We are done playing in the dark, Marco," Adrien stated softly, looking at his reflection in the wet glass. "I have a family to build."
