The GPS pinged David’s car at the old Navy Pier docks on the edge of Lake Michigan.

The wind was brutal as Luca’s armored SUV pulled into the deserted shipyard.

David’s car was parked near the water's edge, the driver's side door left wide open.

Luca, Marco, and I approached cautiously, weapons drawn by the security team.

“David!” Luca shouted over the crashing waves.

No answer.

We reached the car. The interior was empty, but draped over the steering wheel was David’s heavy wool coat.

I picked it up. Tucked inside the pocket was a folded piece of paper.

I handed it to Luca.

It was a printed bank statement, showing a massive transfer of funds from Vanessa’s offshore account into a new, untraceable shell corporation.

The name of the corporation was Isabella Holdings.

Luca stared at the paper in absolute disbelief.

“Isabella,” Luca whispered. “My sister.”

The pieces fell into place with sickening clarity.

Isabella hadn't been a hostage at the lake cabin. She had orchestrated the entire escape. She had killed Vanessa to silence her and played the victim to regain Luca’s trust.

Isabella was the one who had murdered Dr. Harrison in the basement to ensure he never revealed her involvement.

“She wanted the empire,” Luca realized, his voice trembling with rage. “She used Vanessa’s ambition to clear the board, and then she eliminated Vanessa.”

“But why take David?” I asked.

“Because David figured it out,” a voice echoed from the shadows of a nearby warehouse.

We turned.

Isabella stepped out into the grey morning light. She was holding a suppressed pistol, aimed directly at a bound and gagged David, who was kneeling on the concrete.

“Hello, brother,” Isabella smiled coldly.

“Isabella, drop the gun,” Luca ordered, stepping forward.

“You were always the favorite, Luca,” Isabella spat, her composed facade cracking into pure jealousy. “Father gave you everything. I was just the sister. But I’m smarter than you. I proved it.”

“You murdered our family,” Luca said, his voice breaking.

“I secured our legacy!” she screamed. “And now, I’m going to finish it. David dies, you take the fall for his murder, and I assume control of the syndicate.”

Isabella raised the gun toward David’s head.
