Viktor Ivanov’s syndicate was dismantled overnight, its assets seized by federal authorities using the encrypted files Adrian had handed over, while the remaining lieutenants scattered to the winds. The name Adrian Kane became spoken with even greater awe—not just as a ruthless crime lord, but as a man who had successfully rewritten the rules of the city's power structure.

Yet, inside Kane Mansion, the atmosphere was entirely transformed.

The heavy, suffocating tension that had once haunted the hallways was gone, replaced by the warm, chaotic sounds of life.

I stood in the sunlit, oversized kitchen, wearing a comfortable floral blouse instead of my old maid’s uniform, stirring a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup.

“Mommy! Look what Adrian made me!”

Mia’s cheerful voice echoed down the hallway before she came bursting into the kitchen, wearing a miniature construction hard hat and holding a brightly painted wooden dollhouse.

Adrian followed right behind her, wearing a casual grey cashmere sweater, his sleeves rolled up, looking every bit the proud father as he carried a box of tools.

“Careful, pumpkin,” Adrian chuckled, kneeling down as Mia proudly displayed her new toy. “The second-floor balcony is still drying. You don't want paint on your dress.”

“It’s not a dress, it’s a superhero cape!” Mia declared, spinning around with a wide, gap-toothed grin.

I leaned against the kitchen counter, watching the two of them with a heart so full it felt ready to burst.

Who would have thought that the most feared mafia boss in Manhattan would spend his Saturday morning building a dollhouse for a six-year-old?

Adrian looked up, catching my gaze across the room. A warm, crooked smile—the kind of smile he reserve exclusively for us—spread across his face. He gently patted Mia on the head. “Go show Barnaby your new room, sweetheart. Mommy and I need to talk for a minute.”

“Okay!” Mia grabbed her dollhouse and scampered off toward the living room.

Adrian stood up and walked over to me. He stepped close, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me gently against his chest. I rested my hands comfortably against his shoulders, breathing in the familiar scent of sandalwood and cedar.

“You’re quiet today,” Adrian murmured, pressing a soft kiss against my temple. “Are you still thinking about the apartment in Brooklyn?”

“No,” I smiled, resting my head against his shoulder. “I was just thinking about how crazy life is. Two weeks ago, I was terrified of losing my job as a maid. And now...”

“And now?” Adrian prompted, raising an eyebrow playfully.

“And now my daughter has completely hijacked a criminal empire and forced its boss to play dress-up and build dollhouses.”

Adrian let out a deep, booming laugh—a sound that used to be so rare, but now filled the mansion every single day.

“She has excellent taste,” Adrian whispered, his voice dropping into a rich, serious register. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-covered box.

My breath hitched.

Adrian slowly knelt down on one knee right there on the kitchen floor, looking up at me with eyes full of a raw, unwavering devotion.

“Elena,” Adrian said, his voice steady and clear. “When you walked into my mansion six months ago, you brought light into a house that had been cold for a decade. And when your daughter looked at me and told me I should be her daddy, she didn't know how desperately I wanted to say yes.”

He popped open the box.

Inside rested an exquisite ring featuring a brilliant-cut diamond surrounded by a halo of deep blue sapphires—the exact color of the evening sky over Manhattan.

“I can’t promise you a normal life,” Adrian continued, his voice thick with emotion. “There will always be enemies, shadows, and ledgers in my world. But I can promise you that you will never carry a heavy burden alone again. I will protect you, I will cherish you, and I will be the father your daughter deserves. Marry me, Elena.”

Tears welled up in my eyes, spilling over my lashes, but for the first time in years, they weren't tears of sorrow or fear. They were tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.

I reached out, cupping his rugged face with both hands, pulling him up into a deep, passionate kiss.

“Yes, Adrian,” I whispered against his lips. “Yes, a thousand times yes.”

From the doorway, a loud, excited gasp echoed.

We turned to see Mia standing there, her eyes wide with delight, clapping her hands together.

“Yay! Mommy and Adrian are getting married!” she cheered, running over and wrapping her arms around both of our legs. “Does that mean I get to be the flower girl?”

Adrian laughed, sweeping Mia up into his arms with one swift motion while keeping his other arm securely wrapped around my waist, pulling us both close.

“You can be whatever you want, princess,” Adrian smiled, kissing the top of her head before looking down at me with a gaze that promised a lifetime of love and safety.

The storm was over. The shadows of the past had burned away in the light of a new dawn.

And as the three of us stood together in the heart of the mansion, I knew that the greatest disaster of my life had turned out to be the greatest blessing I could have ever dreamed of.
