Adrian didn't move.
He stood in the middle of the wedding hall, the photograph still in his hand, the necklace resting against his palm.
The guests hadn't left.
No one could.
Clara was shaking.
Baby Mia had buried her face in Clara's shoulder.
The older child stood close, gripping Clara's dress with both fists.
Victoria stepped forward.
"Adrian, listen to me.
This girl is confused.
She's been coached.
Someone put her up to this."
Adrian didn't look at her.
"Where did you get this necklace, Clara?"
Clara swallowed hard.
"She gave it to me.
Before they took her away.
She said if anything ever happened to her, I had to find you."
Victoria's voice went sharp.
"That's enough.
You don't know what you're saying."
"She told me your name," Clara said quietly.
"She told me everything."
Adrian looked up.
"Who gave you this?"
Clara hesitated.
Then she said a name.
Victoria's face went white.
One of the wedding guests near the back made a sound — not a gasp, something smaller.
Adrian turned.
An older woman was already moving toward the exit, her handbag pressed tight against her chest.
Adrian's voice cut across the room.
"Don't let her leave."
---
What that woman knew — and why Victoria needed her gone — is the secret that changes everything.
