"She took Mommy's necklace," Sophie said.

She sat between Ethan and her therapist, holding a stuffed rabbit.

"I saw her."

"What happened when you told her you saw?" the therapist asked.

Sophie squeezed the rabbit.

"She said I was lying."

"And then?"

"She made me sit downstairs."

"Was that the first time?"

Sophie nodded.

The entire pattern shifted into focus.

Sophie had seen Vanessa opening drawers, photographing documents, taking Claire's necklace, entering Ethan's study at night.

A five-year-old had become a witness.

So Vanessa trained everyone around her not to believe the witness.

Ethan remembered every time Vanessa had said Sophie was jealous.

Every time she claimed Sophie was lying for attention.

Every time Ethan had answered, "Sweetheart, we don't make up stories."

The shame was almost unbearable.

After the interview, Ethan knelt in front of Sophie.

"I need to tell you something."

She looked at him cautiously.

"There were times you told me something was wrong and I didn't understand. I should have listened better."

Sophie touched his cheek.

"You were working."

That kindness from a child nearly broke him.

"Work was never more important than you. I forgot how to show that. I'm not going to forget again."

She leaned forward and hugged him.

Later that day police found Dr. Vale at a roadside motel.

He asked for a lawyer immediately.

But the room contained enough evidence to keep investigators busy for weeks: external drives, forged reports, payment records, and raw video files.

One raw file showed Vanessa rehearsing lines with Daniel before he entered the hidden room dressed like Ethan.

Another showed Graham saying, "Once the marriage license is signed, we move faster."

Then came a clip that made the room silent.

Vanessa stood alone in Ethan's study holding Claire's necklace.

She looked directly into the hidden camera she had forgotten was recording and said into her phone:

"The kid is the only problem left."

Ethan felt his hands go cold.

Maya stopped the video.

"There's more after this."

"Play it."

Vanessa listened to someone on the phone.

Then she smiled.

"No. Don't hurt her. Not yet. We need Ethan to sign first."
