Adrian's hand was trembling as he picked up the USB drive.

Three days before she d*ed?"

Maria nodded, tears running down her face.

"She made me promise.

She said — 'If anything ever happens to Oliver, you give that to Adrian.

Not before.

Only then.'"

The room went completely still.

Vanessa's smile had disappeared.

Adrian walked to his laptop without a word.

His fingers shook as he plugged the drive in.

One file.

A video.

He pressed play.

The woman on the screen was thin.

Pale.

But her eyes were sharp and clear.

It was his wife.

Recorded from a hospital bed.

"Adrian…

if you're watching this, then she's already made her move."

Adrian stopped breathing.

"Vanessa isn't who you think she is.

We didn't meet by accident.

She came into your life because of the company.

Because of Oliver's inheritance.

I have the documents.

Everything is on this drive."

A sharp sound cut through the room.

Vanessa had knocked a glass off the table.

"That's enough." Her voice was different now.

Lower.

Harder.

Adrian looked up slowly.

"You knew she recorded this."

Vanessa didn't answer.

"That's why you wanted Maria gone." His voice cracked.

"That's why you dropped my son."

Vanessa took one step back.

Then her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen — and her face went white.
