Elena froze.
“Mia?”
“She was one.”
Daniel looked exhausted.
“I thought whoever staged the crash wanted me.”
He swallowed.
“They didn’t.”
Adrian leaned closer.
“They wanted proof that Mia existed.”
Elena stared.
Why would Mia matter?
Daniel continued:
“I found the answer in Silvio Moretti’s warehouse records.”
Adrian’s pulse changed.
“The warehouse wasn’t used to hide money.”
A pause.
“It was used to hide ownership.”
Silence.
“Silvio had a silent partner.”
Adrian frowned.
His father had never had one.
Not officially.
Daniel continued:
“Thirty percent.”
Adrian stopped breathing.
“The partner died before the Moretti companies were consolidated, and his interest was erased.”
Elena whispered:
“Who?”
Daniel answered on screen.
“Matteo Rossi.”
Elena froze.
Her grandfather.
No.
“My grandfather?”
Daniel continued as if he could hear her.
“Matteo Rossi was Elena’s grandfather.”
Adrian stared.
The Rossi family.
Elena.
Mia.
Daniel continued:
“And he left his interest to his direct descendants.”
Adrian felt cold.
The company his father had built—
partly belonged to Elena’s family.
“That is why the warehouse matters.”
Daniel held up a folder.
“Silvio knew.
Marco knew later.
My accident happened after I found the original partnership records.”
Elena stared.
“So this is about me?”
Daniel shook his head on screen.
“No.”
Then:
“It is about Mia.”
Everyone froze.
“Matteo’s trust skipped any descendant who formally waived rights.”
Elena frowned.
“My mother never—”
Daniel continued.
“Elena’s mother signed a waiver when she was nineteen.”
Elena went pale.
“I didn’t know.”
“But waivers do not bind unborn descendants.”
Adrian understood.
Mia.
Daniel looked into the camera.
“Mia is the first unwaived Rossi descendant born after the consolidation.”
Silence.
“She may own the dormant thirty-percent family interest.”
Elena nearly dropped her daughter.
Adrian moved instinctively.
She recovered.
Mia frowned.
“Own what?”
Nobody answered.
Daniel continued:
“And someone inside the Moretti network knows.”
Adrian’s jaw tightened.
“Marco believes the surviving records can restore Mia’s claim.”
A pause.
“But the person hunting us believes the same records can be destroyed.”
Daniel looked exhausted.
“If Adrian is watching this, tell him the person is not Marco.”
Adrian waited.
“Not Victor.”
Victor closed his eyes.
Then Daniel said:
“It’s someone Adrian has trusted since childhood.”
Adrian’s stomach tightened.
Daniel looked away from camera.
A sound behind him.
He suddenly stood.
The video shook.
Then he returned close to the lens.
“Do not let Mia go to St.
Catherine’s.”
Elena frowned.
“What is St.
Catherine’s?”
Adrian knew.
His face drained.
A private Catholic cemetery outside the city.
The Moretti family crypt.
Daniel continued:
“The original Rossi partnership ledger is hidden inside Silvio’s tomb.”
Silence.
“Marco moved it there twelve years ago.”
Adrian stared.
His father’s grave.
Of course.
“No one searches the dead.”
Then Daniel whispered:
“And whoever wants Mia has already booked a burial there for tomorrow.”
The video ended.
Elena looked horrified.
“A burial?”
Adrian grabbed his phone.
“Whose?”
Victor was already searching through offline estate records from his laptop.
Then he stopped.
His face changed.
“What?”
“There is a funeral reservation.”
Adrian stared.
“Name.”
Victor looked at Elena.
She went pale before he spoke.
“Daniel Rossi.”
Silence.
Elena’s knees nearly gave out.
Mia whispered:
“Daddy funeral?”
Adrian looked at the timestamp.
Tomorrow.
11:00 a.m.
Someone was planning to bury Daniel.
Again.
Then Victor opened the attached cemetery authorization.
The family representative who approved the burial was listed at the bottom.
Adrian read the name.
And for the first time that day, fear reached him cleanly.
Because the signature belonged to his mother.
Serafina Moretti.
The woman who had supposedly lost the ability to speak after a stroke five years earlier.
