Victor tried to leave.

That was when everyone knew.

People who have nothing to hide don’t run.

Daniel stepped in front of the door.

“Stay.””

Victor looked at him.

“Move.””

“No.””

For the first time that night, Daniel didn’t look like a betrayed husband.

He looked like the man my father had raised.

Strong.

Focused.

Dangerous.

“You manipulated my wife.””

Victor scoffed.

“Your wife manipulated herself.””

Claire flinched.

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“You don’t get to speak about her like that.””

Victor laughed.

“After what she did?””

Daniel didn’t answer.

Because the truth was complicated.

Claire had lied.

She had hurt him.

But she had also been used.

And everyone finally understood that.

Claire slowly stood.

“I need to say something.””

Nobody interrupted.

She looked at Daniel.

“I know everyone thinks I’m the villain.””

Nobody denied it.

“I lied.””

Her voice shook.

“I lied every day.””

She looked down.

“But Victor is right about one thing.””

Daniel’s face changed.

“What?””

“I was weak.””

The admission surprised everyone.

Claire wiped her eyes.

“I was terrified. After losing the baby, I felt like my entire life disappeared.””

She looked at Daniel.

“I didn’t just lose a child. I lost the future I imagined.””

Daniel looked away.

Claire continued.

“But I made a terrible choice.””

She touched her stomach.

“The fake pregnancy started because I was grieving.””

She looked toward Victor.

“Then he found me.””

Victor said nothing.

“He told me Daniel would leave if he knew.””

Daniel’s jaw tightened.

“He said you would see me as damaged.””

A painful silence followed.

Claire whispered:

“And I believed him.””

That was the part that hurt most.

Not the lie.

The manipulation.

Someone had found the weakest moment in a person’s life and pushed harder.

Daniel looked at Victor.

“Why?””

Victor remained silent.

My father answered.

“Because he wanted control.””

Victor smiled slightly.

“You all make me sound like a monster.””

My father looked at him.

“You forged my signature.””

Victor’s smile disappeared.

“You think this company belongs to you?””

My father stared.

“It was built by everyone who worked for it.””

Victor laughed.

“No.””

He looked around.

“It was built because I made the decisions you were too emotional to make.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“You wanted my position.””

Victor shrugged.

“I wanted what I earned.””

“You earned betrayal?””

Victor’s expression turned cold.

“I spent forty years beside your father. I watched him choose his family over the company again and again.””

My father frowned.

“What are you talking about?””

Victor looked at him.

“You could have made me CEO years ago.””

“I trusted you as a partner.””

“And that was your mistake.””

The words hung in the air.

Then Victor turned toward Daniel.

“You think this ends with me?””

Nobody spoke.

Victor smiled.

“Look closer.””

Daniel frowned.

“What?””

Victor pointed toward the document.

“The agreement was changed three months ago.””

“Yes.””

“And the board meeting is tomorrow.””

Everyone froze.

My father looked confused.

“Tomorrow?””

Victor nodded.

“If Daniel loses control of the company, the transfer becomes official.””

Daniel stared.

“So you planned everything before tonight.””

“Yes.””

The honesty was terrifying.

Then my phone buzzed.

Everyone looked at me.

I checked the screen.

Unknown number.

One message.

I opened it.

And my blood turned cold.

Because the message contained a photo.

A photo of Claire.

Taken months ago.

Before the fake pregnancy.

Before anyone knew the truth.

Underneath it were five words:

*“Ask her who the real father is.””*
