Two years later.
The Vance estate on Lake Norman had grown into a sanctuary of warmth, joy, and new beginnings.
The sun was shining brightly over the green lawns as family and friends gathered for a very special occasion: Clara’s seventh birthday and the announcement of our second child.
The backyard was decorated with yellow and white balloons, long tables laden with fresh summer food, and the sounds of children laughing as they played near the lake.
Julian stood beside me near the outdoor grill, holding our newborn son, Gabriel—a healthy, dark-haired baby boy who had been born three months earlier.
"He looks just like you when you're thinking," Julian teased, gently bouncing Gabriel against his shoulder.
"He has your chin, Chief," I laughed, putting my arm around Julian's waist and leaning my head against his arm.
Our legal counsel, Sarah Lin, walked over holding a glass of iced tea, smiling warmly as she watched Clara playing tag with her friends.
"The board approved the new endowment fund this morning, Madeline," Sarah reported. "The Vance Foundation just surpassed fifty million dollars in active grants for female-led businesses across thirty states."
"Fifty million," I murmured, looking out at the shimmering lake. "When we started this, Sarah, I just wanted to help ten women pay their rent."
"You built a movement, Madeline," Sarah said softly, touching my arm. "And it’s going to outlast all of us."
