The wedding ballroom had been designed to celebrate love.

That was what Simone kept saying during the months of planning.

Love was in every detail.

The white roses lining the aisle.

The golden chairs arranged perfectly for guests.

The enormous cake decorated with flowers.

The soft music that had played while everyone waited for the ceremony.

But now every decoration felt like part of a crime scene.

Darius stood in the center of the ballroom, staring at the woman who was supposed to become his wife.

Simone.

The woman who had held his hand through difficult years.

The woman who had promised him honesty.

The woman who had just been exposed by the voice coming from a small USB drive held by a seven-year-old girl.

“Darius,” Simone finally said, “you have to let me explain.””

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he looked at Ava.

The little girl stood beside the DJ booth, still holding the microphone.

“Ava,” he said softly, “where did you get this?””

Ava looked down.

Her bravery faded for a moment.

“From Simone’s room.””

The guests reacted instantly.

A few people gasped.

Simone’s eyes narrowed.

“You went through my things?””

“No,” Ava said quickly.

“I didn’t.””

“Then how did you get it?””

Ava looked at her mother.

Nia stepped forward.

“She found it when she came to my house.””

Simone turned toward her.

“Your house?””

The way she said it made Nia flinch.

Darius noticed.

“What is going on between you two?””

Nia swallowed.

“It’s complicated.””

“That’s not an answer.””

Before Nia could respond, Simone walked closer.

“Darius, you’re letting a child destroy our wedding because of a misunderstanding.””

Ava tightened her grip on the microphone.

“It’s not a misunderstanding.””

Simone looked at her.

“Then tell everyone what you think happened.””

Ava hesitated.

She was brave, but she was still seven.

Darius lowered himself slightly so he was closer to her height.

“Hey. You’re okay.””

Ava looked at him.

“I heard her talking.””

“Who?””

“Simone.””

The bride went silent.

“When?””

Ava looked toward the floor.

“Last week.””

Nia’s face changed.

Darius noticed.

“Last week?””

Ava nodded.

“She didn’t know I was there.””

The room became even quieter.

Darius looked at Simone.

“What did you say?””

Simone crossed her arms.

“I don’t know what she thinks she heard.””

Ava looked at the USB drive.

“But this proves it.””

The DJ console screen showed another file.

A second recording.

Nobody moved.

Darius stared at it.

“Play it.””

Simone immediately stepped forward.

“No.””

The single word came out too quickly.

Everyone heard it.

Darius looked at her.

“Why?””

She froze.

“Because this is getting out of control.””

“No,” he said.

“Because you’re scared.””

The guests watched silently.

Simone’s face hardened.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.””

Darius looked at the USB.

“Then there’s no reason not to hear it.””

Nia grabbed his arm.

“Darius…”

He turned toward her.

“What?””

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I wanted to tell you.””

“Tell me what?””

She couldn’t answer.

That scared him more than anything else.

The DJ stepped away from the booth.

“I don’t think I should be involved in this.””

Darius looked at him.

“Just leave the equipment.””

The DJ nodded and moved away.

Ava placed her small hand near the keyboard.

Simone watched every movement.

The bride who had looked confident all morning was gone.

Now she looked desperate.

“Ava,” Simone said softly.

The little girl looked at her.

“Please.””

The word shocked everyone.

Because Simone didn’t sound angry.

She sounded afraid.

Ava slowly lowered her hand.

Darius noticed.

“Simone, what are you afraid we’ll hear?””

She looked at him.

For a moment, there was sadness in her eyes.

Then it disappeared.

“You don’t understand.””

“Then make me understand.””

Nobody spoke.

The clock near the entrance continued ticking.

The wedding guests stood frozen between leaving and staying.

Finally, Ava looked at Darius.

“I promised Mom I would wait.””

Darius frowned.

“Wait for what?””

Ava pointed at the USB.

“For you to be ready.””

A cold feeling moved through the room.

Darius looked at Nia.

“What does that mean?””

Nia wiped a tear from her cheek.

“I was trying to protect you.””

“From what?””

Before she could answer, Simone suddenly stepped around Darius.

Her hand reached toward the DJ console.

“Ava, move.””

Ava stepped back.

Darius grabbed Simone’s arm.

“Stop.””

She looked at him.

Her eyes were no longer calm.

They were terrified.

“Darius, you cannot hear that.””

The entire ballroom went silent.

Because everyone understood.

Whatever was on the second recording was something Simone truly did not want anyone to hear.

Darius slowly released her arm.

“Why?””

Simone stared at him.

No answer.

Ava looked between them.

Then she pressed the button.

The speakers prepared to play.

Simone suddenly lunged forward.

“DON’T PLAY IT!””

The room erupted.

And at that exact moment, the lights above the DJ booth flickered.

The screen changed.

The second recording was ready.

But before a single sound could come out, Ava noticed something else on the USB.

A hidden file.

A file with a name that made her eyes widen.
