The ballroom no longer felt like a wedding.

It felt like a courtroom.

Everyone had become a witness.

The bride stood near the DJ booth, breathing heavily. The groom stood between her and the child holding the evidence. The mother watched with fear, knowing the truth was seconds away from being uncovered.

Ava stared at the computer screen.

Her small fingers hovered above the keyboard.

Darius noticed her expression.

“What is it?””

Ava didn’t answer.

“Ava?””

She looked up.

“There’s another file.””

Simone closed her eyes.

“No.””

The word came out almost like a whisper.

Darius turned toward her.

“You knew?””

Simone didn’t respond.

That was enough.

A few guests began whispering.

One woman near the back shook her head.

“I can’t believe this.””

Another guest whispered, “The wedding hasn’t even started.””

Darius ignored them.

His entire focus stayed on Simone.

“How many things have you been hiding from me?””

Simone’s lips parted.

“You’re making a mistake.””

“Am I?””

“Yes.””

“Then tell me what’s on that drive.””

She looked away.

That silence hurt more than any confession.

Ava touched the screen.

The hidden file opened.

A message appeared.

Not an audio file.

A document.

Darius stepped closer.

“What does it say?””

Ava looked nervous.

“I don’t know.””

“Read it.””

The little girl looked at the screen.

Then at her mother.

Nia immediately shook her head.

“No, Ava.””

Darius turned.

“Why not?””

Nia’s voice cracked.

“Because some things cannot be undone.””

The sentence hung in the air.

Darius stared at her.

“What does that mean?””

Nia looked down.

“I was hoping we would never get here.””

Simone suddenly laughed.

It wasn’t a happy laugh.

It was the laugh of someone who realized she had lost control.

“You always make yourself the victim.””

Everyone looked at her.

Nia’s face changed.

“What did you say?””

Simone stepped forward.

“You heard me.””

Darius looked between them.

“You two have known each other longer than I thought.””

Neither woman answered.

Ava looked confused.

She looked at her mother.

“Mom?””

Nia immediately softened.

“Sweetheart, I’m sorry you had to be part of this.””

“But you said Dad needed to know.””

The words hit harder than anything else.

Darius looked at Ava.

“Your dad?””

Ava froze.

Nia froze.

Simone’s eyes moved between them.

And suddenly, the room became even quieter.

Darius looked at Nia.

“What did she mean?””

Nia’s face turned pale.

“I…”

“You told her I needed to know.””

Nia looked away.

“Ava shouldn’t have to explain adult problems.””

Darius stepped back.

“Adult problems?””

He looked at the USB.

“What exactly did you put on this?””

Before anyone could answer, Simone moved toward the microphone.

“Enough.””

Her voice cut through the room.

Everyone turned.

She looked different now.

The fear was still there.

But something else had replaced it.

Anger.

“You want the truth?”” she said.

Darius stared at her.

“Yes.””

Simone looked around the ballroom.

At the guests.

At the flowers.

At the wedding she had planned.

Then back at him.

“Fine.””

Nia whispered, “Simone, don’t.””

Simone ignored her.

“You think you know everything about today.””

Darius said nothing.

“You think you’re the only person who was lied to.””

Ava held the USB tighter.

Darius frowned.

“What are you talking about?””

Simone looked at Nia.

“She never told you, did she?””

Nia’s eyes filled with fear.

“Stop.””

Simone smiled sadly.

“After all these years, you still think you can hide it.””

Darius looked between them.

“Hide what?””

No one answered.

The guests waited.

The microphone sat between them.

The USB drive remained connected.

And then Ava noticed something.

The hidden file had opened.

There was a name attached.

A name she recognized.

Her face changed.

“Mom…”

Nia looked at her.

“What?””

Ava slowly turned the screen toward her.

“I think this is why you didn’t want me to find it.””

Nia stepped closer.

Then stopped.

Because she saw the name.

And all the fear on her face confirmed one thing.

This file was never meant to be played at a wedding.

Darius looked at the screen.

“What name is that?””

Nobody spoke.

Simone looked at Nia.

Nia looked at Ava.

And Ava quietly whispered the words that made the entire room fall silent.

“It’s my name.””
