The room didn’t erupt.

That was the strangest part.

After everything we had learned that night—the fake pregnancy, the secret relationship, the hidden paternity test—nothing should have shocked us anymore.

But the silence after reading that agreement felt different.

It wasn’t confusion.

It was realization.

Someone had been planning this.

Daniel held the document with both hands.

“Victor,” he said quietly, “you expect me to believe you had nothing to do with this?””

Victor didn’t answer immediately.

That hesitation was enough.

My father stepped forward.

“You knew about the agreement?””

Victor looked at him.

“I knew about the original version.””

“And the changes?””

Victor’s expression hardened.

“I didn’t make them.””

Daniel looked down at the paper again.

“But someone did.””

I took the document from him and studied it carefully.

The added condition was typed separately, attached with a signature page.

The signature looked like my father’s.

But something about it bothered me.

I had spent years watching my father sign contracts. He always pressed hard enough that his pen left a mark on the paper beneath.

This signature was too smooth.

Too careful.

“This isn’t his signature,” I said.

Everyone turned toward me.

My father looked surprised.

“What?””

I pointed at the page.

“Dad always signs the same way. The first letter is sharp. This one is different.””

Daniel looked at Victor.

“You knew?””

Victor shook his head.

“No.””

My father grabbed the paper.

His face changed as he examined it.

“She’s right.””

The room became colder.

Someone had forged his signature.

Someone had added the condition.

Someone wanted Daniel to lose everything.

My mother sat down slowly.

“I don’t understand.””

Victor looked at her.

“I think you do.””

She looked away.

“What are you saying?””

“I’m saying someone used Claire’s situation to create the perfect disaster.””

Claire stood suddenly.

“What?””

Victor faced her.

“You weren’t the target.””

Daniel looked confused.

“What do you mean?””

Victor pointed at the agreement.

“The fake pregnancy made Daniel look like he had built his family on a lie. That activates the condition.””

I felt sick.

The entire scandal wasn’t just about Claire.

It was a trap.

A carefully designed one.

Daniel looked at Claire.

“Who knew about the agreement?””

Nobody answered.

My father’s eyes moved around the room.

Then stopped.

“Only four people.””

“Who?”” Daniel asked.

My father swallowed.

“Me. Margaret. Victor. And…”

He stopped.

Everyone noticed.

“And who?””

My father looked at Claire.

“Claire.””

Claire’s face went pale.

“Me?””

“You asked about the company structure months ago.””

“I was trying to understand your family.””

My father stared.

“You knew enough to be dangerous.””

Claire stepped back.

“No.””

Daniel moved between them.

“Don’t accuse her without proof.””

The defense surprised everyone.

Even Claire.

Daniel looked at Victor.

“You may hate what she did. I do too. But that doesn’t mean she planned this.””

Victor nodded slowly.

“Good.””

Daniel frowned.

“What?””

“You’re finally thinking clearly.””

Victor reached into his pocket.

He pulled out another item.

A small USB drive.

“I found this in my office.””

My father’s eyes narrowed.

“What is it?””

“Security footage.””

Nobody spoke.

Victor placed it on the table.

“From the night the agreement was altered.””

Daniel stared.

“Why didn’t you show this earlier?””

Victor looked toward the window.

“Because I wasn’t sure who I could trust.””

My father’s voice became angry.

“After forty years, you suspected me?””

Victor looked back.

“I suspected everyone.””

He connected the drive to a laptop from the office.

The screen flickered.

A video appeared.

The footage was from three months earlier.

A hallway.

The company headquarters.

A person entering the legal department.

The quality wasn’t perfect.

But the person’s face was visible.

And everyone recognized them.

My mother gasped.

“No…”

Daniel stared at the screen.

The person in the video was carrying a folder.

Walking directly toward the company lawyer’s office.

Then the timestamp appeared.

The same day the agreement was changed.

The person turned toward the camera.

And we all saw who it was.

My father whispered the name.

“Margaret.””

My mother collapsed into a chair.
