The grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in Chicago was bathed in brilliant crystal light.
Over five hundred of the city’s most powerful figures—politicians, CEOs, celebrities, and media titans—filled the room. The air buzzed with intense speculation. News of Eleanor Moretti’s arrest had sent shockwaves through high society, and everyone was waiting to see how Luca would handle the crisis.
Sitting near the front stage was Arthur Shaw and his daughter Evelyn. Evelyn wore an arrogant, smug smile, firmly believing that her debt demand would force Luca to surrender before the night was over.
Suddenly, the room went completely silent as the main doors opened.
Luca walked into the ballroom. He looked breathtakingly handsome in a perfectly tailored black tuxedo.
And walking beside him, holding his arm with elegant confidence, was me.
I wore a floor-length emerald green silk gown that complimented my dark hair, adorned with simple diamond earrings that Luca had given me years ago. Walking just ahead of us were Eli and Mara. Eli looked like a mini-baron in a sharp black suit and velvet bowtie, while Mara wore a white princess dress with a tiny sparkling tiara resting in her dark curls.
Gasps echoed across the ballroom as camera flashes exploded like a sea of lightning.
Evelyn’s face turned instantly white. She stood up from her chair, staring at us in utter disbelief.
Luca led us up onto the main stage, standing before the podium and the wall of press microphones. He looked out over the crowd with calm, absolute authority.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,” Luca’s rich, commanding voice resonated through the crystal speakers. “Tonight was originally scheduled to be a celebration of Moretti Global’s annual financial growth. But tonight is about something far more important than profits. Tonight is about truth.”
He looked down at me, offering a warm, loving smile, then looked out at the audience.
“Six years ago, due to a cruel act of deceit perpetrated by people I trusted, I was separated from the love of my life, Nia Carter,” Luca announced clearly into the microphones. “And for six years, I was robbed of the greatest blessing a man could ever receive.”
Luca reached down, taking Eli’s hand in his right, and Mara’s hand in his left.
“These are my children,” Luca declared, his voice filled with overwhelming, fierce pride. “Eli Moretti and Mara Moretti. They are my blood, my heart, and the sole legal heirs to everything I build.”
The room erupted into furious whispers and clicking camera shutters.
“Furthermore,” Luca continued, his gaze shifting directly toward Arthur and Evelyn Shaw in the audience, “I would like to address recent rumors regarding corporate restructuring. Today, Moretti Global finalized a complete buyout of Shaw Financial Corp. Mr. Arthur Shaw has been officially retired from all banking operations, effective immediately.”
Arthur Shaw gasped, clutching his chest as his phone began buzzing frantically with emergency alerts from his board members. Evelyn fell back into her chair, her face contorted in total, crushing defeat.
“My family’s future is no longer up for debate,” Luca concluded, his voice ringing with absolute finality. “Thank you, and enjoy the evening.”
The ballroom erupted into deafening applause.
Luca turned to me, wrapping his arm securely around my waist. Eli grinned up at his father, while Mara waved happily at the flashing cameras. As we walked off the stage together, I knew that the ghosts of our past had finally been laid to rest. We had survived the storm, and nothing in this world could ever break us apart again.
